Planning Your Funeral

Nearly 5 years ago, my husband’s precious maternal grandmother passed away. This special woman had an amazing sense of humor and a flair for life. Without saying a word, she could make me laugh with just a look. Several years before her death, she visited a local funeral home in order to plan her funeral services. When she passed away, the family didn’t have to deal with the stress of organizing her farewell services. They could relax, grieve, and concentrate on the wonderful memories they shared with her. I've grown to appreciate this. On this blog, you will discover the steps required to plan your own funeral.

Basics Of Buying Your Funeral Service Flower Arrangements

Nora Mitchelle

If a close loved one passes away, then you may be tasked with making a lot of the funeral decisions. These decisions include purchasing certain items as part of the overall funeral services. Flowers are one of these things, and if you have never purchased funeral arrangements, then your funeral home can assist you. You can also keep reading to learn about some of the basics here.

You Will Purchase The Larger Arrangements

When it comes to funeral flower arrangements, the immediate family is traditionally responsible for buying the larger ones. Medium and smaller sized arrangements are reserved for other mourners. The closer you are to the deceased, the larger the arrangement you should buy. So, you want to make sure you are looking at least one or two groups of large flowers.

Some of the bigger arrangements include the casket wreath, standing wreath, standing spray, or vase spray. These arrangements, excluding the casket wreath, come with either a biodegradable vase or a metal stand. Metal stands are often rented from the funeral home or the flower retailer. You do not need to buy them or keep them when you are done.

You should know that the larger sprays are expensive. However, if you want a big arrangement but do not want to spend a lot of money, you have the option of choosing flowers with more greenery. Fern types of greenery and baby's breath are a few options to expand the look of the arrangement.

You Can Choose The Flowers You Like

Funeral arrangements can be chosen from a brochure presented by your funeral services provider. This is often a good choice if you are overwhelmed about all of the choices that you need to make. However, if you want a more personal touch, you can choose the design of the arrangements and then pick the flowers that you like best.

White lilies, carnations, orchids, and chrysanthemums are the more traditional funeral flowers. However, if you want a more joyous arrangement, think about adding pink and red roses, orange gerbera daisies, yellow mums, purple carnations, and other colorful flowers. Rose arrangements are beautiful as well and so are bouquets of wispy asters and delphiniums.

If your loved one enjoyed nature, then you can even ask for wildflower arrangements. This is an especially natural touch since many of the flowers will be left at the gravesite.
